"When you a have a young baby you often are anxious about leaving them in someone’s care. A mother’s institution is everything and I knew right away I could trust Nathea with my baby. Nathea has a way of getting to know your baby/childs personality individually ensuring they are thriving in her care. Nathea not only provides a safe learning environment but a place children look forward to coming to. Not everyone is made to look after children but Nathea was nothing but a blessing to our family and has helped watch over my four girls for years. I would be lost without her especially when my daughters were young." - Parent Testimonial
We know, based on decades of research, that children learn through play. At Alice-N-Wonderland, I therefore offer developmentally appropriate, play-based activities which will stimulate sensory motor development, language development, and the development of social interactions and strong self-esteem.
Gross motor skills, the ability to control and successfully utilize one's larger muscles, are vital to many experiences children will have in their future, both in and out of school, such as playing on the playground, participating in sports, riding a bicycle and sitting at a desk. I provide daily opportunities for children to play outside and to build these essential skills.
Fine motor skills, the ability to both identify and control small objects with one's hands, are critical for many tasks such as writing, drawing, picking up dropped Cheerios and finding pennies in your pocket. I support the development of fine motor skills by providing hands on experiences such as drawing, painting, cutting and using stickers
Children learn about the world through their senses, especially their sense of touch. I provide a wide variety of sensory-rich experiences, such as playing with finger paint, sand and water, knowing that the more surfaces children touch, the more their sensitivity to texture solidifies and the more their hand-eye coordination increases.
At Alice-N-Wonderland, I foster a love of reading and a familiarity with the alphabet at a developmentally appropriate level. I encourage the development of literacy skills by reading to children regularly, both individually and in groups, and by having books accessible throughout our days. I model reading and writing throughout my interactions with the children, seamlessly demonstrating the importance of literacy through daily activities.
Children develop language skills at a remarkable rate and I provide opportunities to help them do so. I facilitate the growth of spoken language through speaking with the children and through actively encouraging them to speak with each other. We sing songs to increase spoken fluency. I ask for their opinions, model patterns of conversation, ask them questions and utilize descriptive language to help them begin to label items and feelings.
